Fiesta on Oxford

Since Nattie had come back for around 5 weeks before heading to the UK to work and play as well as everyone being free I organised for 15 of us to get together at Fiesta on Oxford for some Ol' School Mexican!

Fiesta on Oxford is a small Restaurant in Bondi Junction with festive Pinatas hanging from the ceiling and a wide variety of Latin Amenrican music blasting from the stereo which is great as I am a fan of theme music.

With a wide Variety of Delicious Mexican it was hard for me to decide what I want, I wanted it all finally decided on 3 in 1 dips shared amongst 6 of us and then my main being the combination Chimichanga (with shredded beef) and Texas Taco (bean).

three in one dips

Oh you cant see my taco!

Vis' Fajitas

Eddies Combination Enchilada and Taquitos

As I had pigged out on the dips when my main arrived I was full :( I tried to eat as much as I can however not as much as I would have liked, plus I filled up on wine and sangria!

While I was full theres always room for dessert where I decided on Chocolate Mousse with Whipped cream, god i love whip cream.

Had a great time at the festive Fiesta on Oxford, maybe next time I wont book such a big group of people, you dont get to speak to everyone as much as you would like.

Im Angus

Caught up with Tammy again which was basolutely fantastic I know when I see her that we will have a good time full of eating, drinking and laughter.

I actually made a booking for Essence and had made a booking but seriously having been there before (and stumbling it on it actually) we thought it would be easy to find....we were wrong, we walked back and forth 3 times and couldnt find the damn place! So as I really wanted a steak, we ended up at I'm Angus.

Although being very busy and packed we got a good table inside which I really wanted as it was so hot and humid on Friday.

We quickly ordered our mains (both Fillet Mignons mine Rare Tammy's Medium to well) as well as a green salad.
The Fillet Mignons obviously Chargrilled steak wrapped in bacon has a side of Garlic Potatos and Onion Marmelade. My steak arrived promptly and was absolutely perfect, red inside, soft and tender - delicious.

Also ordered a bottle of Tatachilla 'McLaren Vale' Cab Sav that went down so well!

For Dessert Tammy and I both ordered one dessert each but obviously shared both desserts with spoons hacking into all possible areas. Seeing Creme Brulee (my absolute fave) this had to be my order in further detail my Creme Brulee was a Mixed Berry version with a brandy Snap Crisp, Tammy on the other hand has a Chocolate Temptation with Vanilla Ice Cream. Thoughts? Tammys Chocolate Tempatation was delicious, my Creme Brulee did not have enough of the caremal top so when I cracked it I realised there was onle a layer in the middle and the berries inside the custard were giving the custard a weird colour....(I dont like fruit that much...ok my friends who read this would say not at all)

Overall the service was great although the waiter thought I was a critic and wouldnt let go of that even though I kept sayibng I wasnt and that this was a personal thing, I also think he was trying to pick up my friend. In addition to this that table next to us which had two guys made a comment about how we could eat desserts and keep our trim figure althought he mustn't have seen me from the cheast down and then decided to join our 'Cheers'

BBQ King

YUMMMMM have been craving Peking Duck for ages and coincidentally so had Tammy. I havent seen Tammy in ages since she came back from her honeymoon (had lunch once) anwyay it was fantastic to catch up with her again.

We decided on an early dinner at BBQ King.

We ordered the Peking Duck 2 courses which was Peking Duck followed by sang choy bow. Oh lordy what a filling dinner.
We got a soup at the start but whilst it tasted fine, i wanted to leave space for the duck.
Seriously the service was fantastic it was prompt, helpful yet very unintrusive. Loved it immensely. The duck skin was so crispy and I loved how it was spring onions and not cucumber YEY!!!

YUMMMYYY
The sang choy bow (we got two each) were enormous so big i couldnt finish them but they were delicious.

Im definately taking my brother here!!

Happy Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year Everyone!!! Welcome the Year of the Pig...

On Friday Eddie and I went to visit the markets in Dxon Street in ChinaTown to get in on the festivities and boy were there festivities.

After getting through the hustle and bustle where i got super exicted over the food then annoyed because it took so long to get anything it was good times :)

Im so depressed about those sweet cakes things above, on the Friday night it was jam packed there were rows of raffle ticket things so I figured no but then I went back after dinner and it was packed again. On the Saturday as we walked through China town to get home, I was going to buy some but it took the guy 5 mins to write 3 chocolate for the customer before me so I gave up.

Following on from this and the purchase of some soy sauce and laughing at the Spam stall Eddie and I headed to Fujiya for Japanese.

Busy and buzzing the waitresses looked so cute and pretty and everyone was prompt and friendly.

Eddie ordered Octopus Balls and a noodle dish while i ordered Agedashi Tofu and bite sized beef, I also order a Japanese alcoholic Lemon drink it was delicious and refershing!

Octopus Balls - you see Im not a seafood fan... BLAH

Agedashi Tofu - I had to pull off the fishy flaky moving things...but i do love this

Bite Sized Steak bits - these were alittle tough, would have liked it rarer but it was still nice.

Eddies Seafoody Noodle Dish (you notice I wasnt paying attention to what was ordered really??)

Valentines 2007 - Spanish Tapas Glebe

Happy Valentines Day!
Eddie and I decided to go somewhere comfortable, affordable and somewhere we had never been before and thus at the last minute decided on Spanish Tapas on Glebe Point Road Glebe.
We arrived on time (for our 7:30 booking) and was shown how to get to the courtyard...then was told to find our own table. Ok not bad I mean one half of me is thinking 'show us to our table dammit' the other is thinking 'atleast we get to sit where we want'.

Our menus came quickly and after deliberating for a short time we made our decision: -
Patatas al ajillo (potatoes in garlic sauce)
ChampiƱones al ajillo (garlic mushrooms)
Albondigas a la espaƱola (meatballs cooked in tomato sauce)
Pincho moruno (marinated lamb skewers)
Traditional Spanish Salad
Herb Bread

plus a glass of sangria just to get me into the valentines Spanish spirit!

The meals came out surprisingly fast actually, and the waiter who was serving us was fantastic, really friendly and we were quite pleased and we definately ordered the right amount to the point we couldnt finish the mushrooms to much deep fried crumby goodness.

Sangria Me!!! $5.00

Traditional Spanish Salad $9.00

Herb Bread $4.00

Golden Crumbed Mushrooms $11.50

Marinated Lamb Skewers $11.50

Garlic Potatos $9.50

Meatballs $11.50

And this is where is gets abit loose. After we finished our meals I asked the the waitress if there was a dessert menu to which she said loudly 'HUH' I kind of moved my head back and said a little louder 'is there a dessert menu' Eddie laughed because he could see how shocked i was not in a bad way i was just caught off gaurd. I decided on Churros con Chocolate quoted on the menu as: -
“Churros” are finger-like pastries coated in sugar and cinnamon. Traditionally they are served with “chocolate”, a smooth rich hot chocolate in which the churros are dipped. “Churros con Chocolate” is a favourite for many Spaniards after a long night out.

Yummo i couldnt wait...I got the waitress's attention and ordered the churros to which she asked 'And den?' like that movie...Dude wheres my Car...it was freakin hilarious! Then i waited.....and waited ....and waited....finally Eddie asked for the Bill thinking she may have forgotten to put the order in but when we got the bill the Churros were there so we decided to wait. The waitress came and went to take our bill to whhich i said 'im just waiting on the churros' and she looked startled and said 'oh your churros' and ran off then i waited and waited then she came back and cleaned a table and while walking down the stairs said 'i will go check on your churros'. finally she came...with CHURROS YEY. They were hot and delicious maybe not worth the wait but still they were good.

Overall it was a good night I just might not get dessert again.

Churros con Chocolate $8.50 mmm

refreshing end

After eating all the absolute crap i had on the weekend i felt fat, heavy and annoyed. While I wanted to head out I also had no energy to do anything, still nothing in the fridge...i need pay day so badly!

So I decided on some chicken thigh fillets that i had in the freezer and decided to make a rice noodle salad.

I can honestly I felt so good after, although i didnt have alot of ingrediants it turned out so well even Eddie when for thirds!

I made a HUGE bowl of it! Chicken marinated in soy, garlic and abit of peanut oil, some lettuce, carrot, mushroom, peanuts and bean sprouts and of course the rice noodles

Covered in my mums fish sauce yum

Ahh i feel much better

My oh My

Ok there has been so much on this month and its meant both Eddie and I are flat BROKE, maxed out....completely empty... and I dont get paid for another 2 weeks or so!!! *cries* We have been eating to much crap lately and spending money on take out and dinners so I needed to create something healthy and cheap! I succeeded.

I was craving Rich's lamb salad but I really wanted roasted vegies so after the gym, I went to Broadway and bought some vegies (parsnips, pumpkin, carrots), salad greens and also 2 lamb backstraps.

It was all pretty easy to put together the only bit I hated is the cutting of the pumpkin grrr I hate it.

Roasted Vegies

My lamb backstraps restingAssemble!

couple with salad green and mushrooms...yummmm

Ive Also coated some chicken breasts with moroccan spices and set aside some vegies so yey Chicken and vegies for lunch tomorrow.

Lazy Nights

Ahh It didnt feel like a Thursday it felt like Friday only difference being that I had a pole class and yes bruises have successfully appeared Ouch! YEY long weekend HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!!

Being so tired I couldnt be bothered to cook nor did we really have anything in the fridge (i really need to go shopping) however my brother being around has meant that I really havent had a chance to.

We decided on a cheap dinner of Asian King from Glebe. I used to always walk passed this place and think it looked quite suss however we were really hungry a couple of weekes ago and decided to get something from there it ended up being cheap and surprisingly good.

So being starving I placed an order for Salt and Spicy Tofu and Beef Chow mein (my order only, Eddie and Tony got other things).

The noodles were abit soft i had expected them to be crispier. The tofu however we crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside and as well as that the salt and spicy coating was totally full of flavour! I was so happy and you get ALOT.

There was also deep fried Dim Sims but i didnt have any of those.

Salt and Spicy Tofu - $7.90

Beef Chow Mein - $7.80

Fried Dim Sims (Oily and stale prawn crackers) - $4.50

I have left overs mmmmmmm

Newtons Cocina

I love this place! Not completely old school, not completely modern, a little from column A a little from Column B.

This has always been a favourite and I was really excited to introduce Tone to this place. The only issue was even pushing the booking back to 9pm we were still pretty stuffed so it was hard to truly appreicate the Newtons like we usually do.

On every visit you get a complimentary Chilli shot - Yuk not my thing, the first and last time i tried this i woke up in the worst rash on my face and had to go to the docs :(

Chilli Shot - Consume at your own Risk!!

I ordered Frozen Strawberry Daquiris for Tone and I while Eddie was soft and drank Solo. Tone wasnt fond of the Daquiri but i thought it was delish!

Frozen Strawberry Daquiri

For starters we got Chimichanges filled with potato and cheese with a sweet basil type sauce. Conveniently it came in 3 so we all got to grab one of these light flavoursome pillows for ourselves.

Chimichangas filled with potato and cheese

Then for mains I ordered the Vegetariano, I love this even with no meat it is so good...deep fried tortilla with whole roasted garlic in mashed potato with jalepeno cheese sauce and salad with cargrilled lemon.

Vegeteriano - I tried so hard to get a good pic but look at it is a deep fried tube with potato and cheese oozing out

Tony and Eddie both got a Quasedilla filled with Chorizo and garlic mash, this also came with mexican rice and salad. I have ahd this before, it is a favourite.

Quasedilla with Chorizo and Garlic Mash

You leave Newtons filling so satisfied (this particualr night, we all kind of felt partly satisfied partly about to puke our guts up from eating so much) but overall happy.

Guzman Y Gomez

OK im sitting here at my computer and never have I felt so satisfied with my meal. Im at the peak of fullness with a great taste of my mexican just lingering in my mouth.

So Pole dancing (classes no im not a professional) usually leaves me with little time to make food so its usually our eating out night (like every other night) tonight i decided to shout Eddie some good Mexican.

Having only had a chance to go to Guzman Y Gomez once before (and loving it) we decided to grab some take out from there again.

Its 8:30 on a Thursday night, parking in Newtown is a shocker and the crowd inside is enormous with a line almost spilling out to the path, with this sight Eddie suggest bugerfeul, Burgerlicious, anything but I was determined to stay because my cravings were strong. Luckily the line although long moved very fast and we were soon at the front of the line.

I ordered the 2 tacos deal for $7.90 one for a filling of D.F Steak and Onions and the other with Beef Zacatecas both with Pico De Gallo - Medium Hot Salsa, Eddie wanted Quesadillas (2 pack as well) 1 with Grilled Mushrooms and the other with D.F Steak and Onions both with Roasted Tomato (mild) salsa ($7.30), being absolutely starving i also ordered Sofrito Rice (2.80) and chips and salsa ($6.50).

My Beef Zacatecas Taco with Pico De Gallo Salsa

Sofrito Rice

Both the Tacos and Quesadilla come wrapped tightly in foil with funky colour coded stickers for different menu choices. The tacos were delicious and chock full of meat and veg (beans) inside soft tortillas, I was stuffed but I made sure i left room for the chips and fresh salsa (I ate tomatos!!!! this is a big deal for me) and rice. Eddies Quesadilla were pretty small and i dont think 2 of those would have satisfied me (im expecting him to go get some maccas tonight) but he also agreed that it was all delicious, even eating rice which he doesnt usually do.

Salsa and Sofrito Rice

Eddies Half eaten Steack and Onion Quesadilla with Roasted Tomato Salsa on top (I tried to get in before he took a bite but alas!)

Chips and Salsa YUMM

Last time we visited Guzman Y Gomez we ordered Burritos, they are huge, I couldnt even finish mine and thats saying alot!

This place is truly a new fave and i will make sure i head back there very soon...
